This video is as close to a still as video can get I believe. As a photographer I want to add just that little bit of movement so that the still is animated.
This super short video aims to confuse the viewer; initially we cannot tell where we are. Are we in the water or are we looking at the water from above? And what about the subject? She seems to try to breathe. Or does she want to say something?
My friend Wally Barnette was very ill for a long time. In his artist mind, being ill was translated into a cold, wet drop falling tortuously on his head; an endless, painful and sometimes just plain annoying condition. He did the performance once. Jim Pruznick was the videographer. I printed the photographs and edited the video. Composer Rita Z. Asch wrote the score. My friend passed away before the work was finished. Both photographs and film were shown at a memorial art exhibit, alongside Wally's own mesmerizing art.
